Silence is Not Always Golden

  • Mood: Somewhere in-between good and worried...
  • Music: Sade - it's soothing

It's Wednesday today, and it is now two days since I last spoke to my sister, Ruby. We usually talk on the phone everyday, so this is rather unusual. I am trying not to think too much about it, but after my conversation last night with my brother-in-law (her husband), I AM getting worried.

On Monday, Easter Monday,I rang Ruby and was answered by her husband who told me she was not in the mood to talk to me.  At first I thought nothing of it and actually laughed at her moodiness. This ususally helps her snap out of it. I asked my brother-in-law what the problem was and was told they had gone for s spot of retail therapy that morning and between shops she had seen her reflection in a mirror, at which she gasped in horror and exclaimed at how big her thighs looked!  So, my brother-in-law, being who he is, tried to calm her down, but she was already spiralling down the route to depression and by the time they reached home she was no longer talking, to him, or to anyone. Mute. Completely mute!

So, here we are again.  I don't know how many times this has happened. Once too many! My sister has been battling with her weight for ages now.  The thing which really worked for her was the Weight Watcher's diet plan, excercise and cutting down on take-aways/fat/high-calorie foods etc. She knows this. She knows it works because she has even recommended it to one of our sisters, and it is working for her. After my accident which left me with a broken pelvis and bed-ridden for months on end, a stone crept on. I too got rid of it using the plan. So, why she yoyos between diets like the Atkins/GI diet/Green-Red Days diet, I have no idea.  I phoned again last night. She was still at work. My brother-in-law was getting frustrated. Things had escalated the night before after they went out for drinks and after a couple or so he had apparently started talking at the top of his voice. Well, he says he didn't take the reprimand that came flying his way too well. But, instead of taking my advice, (which is NEVER to sleep angry but to talk it over before you sleep), they went to bed, she got up the next morning, went to work, and they had not talked for nearly 24hrs! Since her husband is a house-husband at the moment and does the majority of the cooking, I have told him to deceptively put her back on the diet and see how it goes.

Alll I can do now is wait for her to contact me. Texting her is of no use. She will only ignore or delete them without reading them.

My other sister, Isla, right now is distraught because her boyfriend is emigrating to the USA WITHOUT her!.. He said he'll give her his car as a memento.  I couldn't help but laugh when I first heard that. It sounded like some lousy joke. Even April Fool's Day doesn't get this bad! But, it's true. And she had already described her perfect wedding dress to me. Poor soul. So that's another tearful one I'll need to buy a box of tissues for!

Apart from that, things are good. I added my bit to our Peach Tree story this morning. It's so much fun! I'll be changing departments next week. I have already met some of the them at a dinner I attended, which they had organised. But, am I looking forward to it? No, I don't think so. Everyone there claims not to "have a life" when you're there. Oh bother!
